Amazing product! You would be surprised how often you ...Amazing product! You would be surprised how often you will actually use these. Gets quite cold in just a few seconds. Lasts about 20-30 minutes and can be kept in the truck. I have actually wrapped one of these around a water bottle on a hot day, and it cooled it, and myself, down quite well. 5Cool But Not Cold - Was Hoping For BetterI'm not entirely satisfied with these cold packs so I'm giving 3 stars. Pros: They're conveniently sized and not too expensive; they get cold instantly. Cons: They get cold, but not super cold - so, more like the temp of a bottle of water coming out of your fridge as opposed to the temp of an actual ice pack from the freezer; besides not being very cold, they don't stay even that cold for long - 15 mins passes and it's like having a cool water balloon on you; they're super poofy and sloshy - meaning there seems to be a lot of air inside, so the liquid moves around a lot - it's not like an ice pack that will just sit in place because it will form to your neck, shoulder, knee, whatever - it's like trying to get a balloon, filled with 1/2 water and 1/2 air to sit still. Also, and this should be apparent, but I'll point it out anyway - condensation forms on the outside as soon as it cools down and they're just plastic so they're slippery and wet - if you don't like that, you'll need a towel or something to wrap them in - but then, the fact that they don't get very cold comes into play and in 5 mins or so, you won't feel any cold through a towel. So if you just need something for a quick cool down - maybe to sooth a headache for 10 or 15 mins - they're fine, but that's about it. 3Great for travelingI ordered these to take on vacation to treat my tendonitis and stress fracture. My doctor wanted me to ice my foot several times a day and I was worried about having access to ice. I had seen these at Walgreens, but they were expensive. They were much cheaper on amazon! I was worried about shipping them, but they all arrived in perfect shape. I packed a bunch of them in my suitcase and they survived a ten hour flight in my checked luggage and a taxi ride to the hotel with no issues. It was a little difficult to pop the packet inside to activat pe them, but that was a good thing since I could toss one in my purse and carry it around all day with no problems. They are the perfect size to treat my foot issues and they easily slipped inside my walking boot so I didn't have to worry about taking the boot off. They are totally liquid so they molded to my foot easily and they got cold enough to provide relief. Obviously, they weren't as cold as a frozen gel pack or a nice cube, but they did the job and helped my foot feel better during our walking intensive vacation. I will order these again and always keep them on hand! 5Perfect for travel and first aid kitFantastic for travel! Some reviews talk about the cold pack not getting super cold. Nothing can really compare to actual ice, but this does the trick in a pinch. I keep one in my purse and travel bag. Especially on planes, my lower back gets sore. I put one on in the middle of the flight, and it helps prevent my lower back pain normally associated with flying (I've never had an issue getting a few of these through security). Some reviews mention that the packs are hard to "activate." Well, yes they are. If they weren't, they'd pop and activate when you didn't want them to, then be ruined. They are meant to be able to be packed in a First Aid kit or for travel. With that said, I have had to ask for help before, although that is rare, to activate the cold pack. When traveling, I have put the pack in the little freezer section of the mini fridge in a hotel room and the gel freezes. Makes a great second ice pack. 5DO NOT PURCHASE. INFERIOR COLD PACKS.These cold packs are inferior to other brands. I recently suffered a knee injury during a soccer game and needed a cold pack. I activated this pack and the result was a just-barely cool bag. I thought it was just the one so, I tried another. Same result. I purchased this item less than 3 months ago. So, I dug around in the first aid kit and came up with a 4 year old drug store brand cold back and activated it. It was COLD and when applied, immediately started to help the injury. DO NOT BUY Dynarex Instant Cold Packs Dynarex Instant Cold Pack, 5 Inches x 9 Inches, 24-Count. They do not generate the cold to treat an injury. Unfortunately, I purchased a box of 24 and now I'm stuck with them. 1Awesome productI bought these after a recent back injury when ice was the only thing that would give me any pain relief and I had to travel two and a half hours to the doctor. They were a life saver. When I would start hurting really bad, I would pop one of these and put it on my back. They get cold almost instantly. All you have to do is pop it and shake it. It will stay cold about 20-25 minutes. They are much less expensive to order them than that to buy locally. I think that they average about $2.00 each locally and these are less than $1.00 each. I would recommend this product to everyone. 5Should always have on hand for an emergencyAs a nurse I use instant cold packs often, but have never used them at home. I purchased these for use in situations when there is no electricity ie hiking. I actually cut the package apart, and take the package of water out. I am careful not to touch or breathe in while doing this. I keep the white pellets up in the bag it came it, rolling it up and closing it with a rubber band. I then place it in a Ziploc bag. If I need to use it I empty the bag into the zip lock bag and add about cup of water. This reduce its weight somewhat while hiking.ProsConvenient, instant useDo not need to freeze, Can take them where you go and activate them when you need themAre flexible, can bend to the area needing the cold packDon't need to think ahead and freeze and ice packCons1 use onlyActivated by the force required to crush the 2 small bags that are in the packageContain a hazardous material 5WorthlessCold as a cup of stale coffee. I've kept them stored properly, but when I recently went to use on, it didn't really get cold, just cool, and not for long. Thinking that was a fluke or a bad pack, I tried another one today, against my bare skin. It got about as cool as a wash cloth with cold water, and after ten minutes that was gone leaving me just a bag of tepid water. I was expecting these could be used especially for heatstroke or heat exhaustion, but I'm thinking I'd be better off just throwing them all out. This is NOT how instant cold packs usually behave. The seller, Mymedstreet, was incredibly responsive and offered to take them all back for a full refund. Dynarex says there is a definite four year expiration date--coded into the lot number, and all that you can do is call them with a lot number and they will decode it for you. No way to actually determine if the stock is fresh or expired, until you have it in your hands. That's really inexcusable. 1Four have ruptured or leaked on me so far...I have been using these for years. My order history can verify that I have ordered these by the case many times. Never had any issues until this last shipment. From this box, two of them ruptured and spilled all over me when I squeezed the inner pouch. Two others started leaking as soon I activated them. That's four defective in a case that I've only half used. The outer plastic bag feels thinner and more brittle than those in the past. I've also found small indentations made by the hard inner chemical pellets. It seems to me that cheaper plastic is now being used, which the hard inner pellets are damaging during shipment from China. Those indentations are probably causing weak points in the bag. I don't know if this was a defective shipment, or if this is the new Dynarex manufacturing standard. In either event, I can no longer trust this product to use in my car, or any other place where a sudden rupture would be dangerous. Potential buyers beware. Your results may vary. 1Best, least expensive, instant cold pack BY FAR!As a former varsity volleyball player and currently an avid outdoors person, I have been using cold packs when necessary for years. No instant cold pack can compare to ice cubes in an ice bag in terms of the amount of coldness or length of time the coldness lasts; however, there are times when you can't immediately get ice cubes and/or carry your ice bag (or your ice bag leaks during a 3-hr flight -- that was fun, especially for the next traveler assigned to my seat). That's when it's more than handy to have an instant cold pack -- it can literally reduce the pain of an injury, animal bite or insect sting, just to mention a few uses. I have tried just about every instant cold pack available -- big box stores, pharmacies, online, you name it -- and with one exception up until now, they are pretty much worthless. There are ones impossible to activate, ones which harden like a rock if you store them in your closet for less than a month, ones which are barely cool when activated, ones which are the size of postage stamps, ones that don't even stay reasonably cold for 10 minutes. Up until I discovered the Dynarex Instant Cold Pack, the only one I could depend on was the Ace Instant Cold Pack at $7.67 for a twin-pack on Amazon (much more at my neighborhood pharmacy). That comes to $3.83 apiece.I bought the Dynarex 5"x 9" instant cold packs in a box of 24 (yes, twenty-four) for less than $20 delivered. That comes to $0.83 each. I checked each pack in the box and all are just fine. I have used them and they easily activate, they are generously sized (larger than the Ace) and the cold lasted at least 1/2 hour. I can highly recommend them. No, I wasn't given any external incentive to give this great review; my internal incentives were 1) to help other people find a portable, easy-to-use, handy and really decent quality instant cold pack and 2) to give a shout-out to a great instant cold pack manufacturer who deserves it. 5
